A perfect day for a boat trip.

Waypoints Boat Trip on Southampton Water

Tuesday 24th May 2011 has arrived. The first boat trip to take place. We all met in the car park ready to board the bus which had been adapted to take 2 to 3 wheelchair residents; and under the watchful eye of Yvonne, Donna and John we set off with Yvonne at the wheel.

As it was such a lovely sunny morning our journey through the New Forest en route to Hythe was a pleasant one indeed.

We arrived at the Hythe Marina car park and Yvonne etc produced a lovely picnic of assorted sandwiches and cake, all washed down with tea and various soft drink. A team of volunteers then arrived to help us all aboard the ‘Alison McGregor' which has been specifically adapted to take wheelchair passengers. We then set off on our cruise around Southampton Water and Docks passing very close to the Queen Mary II and another ship of the Saga group. The volunteers provided an excellent running commentary on all the sights of interest along the way. Also during the trip, to our delight, the skipper's wife produced cups of tea and coffee with biscuits. We then returned to the Marina for our journey back to Waypoints, after a thoroughly enjoyable day out.

Our thanks go to the members of the kitchen staff for producing such an excellent picnic. We must also say a huge thank you to Yvonne, for the perfect organization of the trip, and, of course, Donna and John.

Well done everybody, it could not have gone any better.

Dennis Lugg - Husband of a resident
